Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Amit Shah held a meeting to review the party's preparedness for the 2016 West Bengal Assembly elections. BJP spokesperson Siddharth Nath Singh said that Shah is satisfied with the increased vote percentage of the party in the recently held by-elections in the Bongaon and Krishnaganj constituencies.
Singh said it was a review meeting regarding West Bengal. They had a discussion with the president on how to prepare for the West Bengal assembly polls in 2016. State president Rahul Sinha was also with us. The party president is satisfied with the increase in vote share during recently held by-polls and added that the results show that there are being seen as an alternative for Bengal voters. There are confident the BJP can bring a transformation in Bengal in 2016.
The Trinamool Congress won last week's by-polls in both constituencies. Even though the BJP lost the Bongaon seat by a margin of 2.11 lakh votes, they still managed to get 70,000 more votes than what they got in 2014, overtaking the Communist Party of India (Marxist).
