06 Feb 2012 Evaluate

With the web censoring issue hovering around their presence in the largest democratic country, the global media and social community sites have submitted their compliance report before the Delhi court which had ordered nearly 21 websites to remove objectionable content. The search engine giant - Google in its report has specified that it has removed the content which was objectionable to the petitioner Mufti Aijaz Arshad Qasmi. Facebook India has also filed its report before the court.

The court has questioned Goggle Inc’s report citing that why the company was not coming up 'properly' with a reply as the notice was served earlier and the media giant should prepare its response. As the court had issued summons to these companies on December 20 last year and February 06, 2012 was the deadline for websites to submit their compliance report.

Based on the objections raised by Qasmi these companies were summoned by a lower court in national capital. The websites, which have been asked to remove objectionable contents, include Facebook India, Facebook, Google India, Google Orkut, Youtube, Blogspot, Microsoft India, Microsoft, Zombie Time, Exboii, Boardreader, IMC India, My Lot, Shyni Blog and Topix.

Earlier these companies have stated that it is very difficult and nearly impossible to monitor the content posted and also web censoring takes away the freedom of speech from the users.
