With the election season heating up across the country, Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid who is presently involved in the bitter war of words with the Election Commission is being criticized by various political parties. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), L K Advani said that Khurshid should apologize to the EC. Other BJP members have even demanded Khurshid’s dismissal from the party.

On the other hand, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, daughter of Congress president Sonia Gandhi backed Khurshid and said that 'these things do happen during elections... One is free to voice his opinion during elections. So is the Election Commission. Hope the matter will be sorted out.'

The Union Law Minister has placed his side story in front of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, 'no question of defiance and he is ready to accept whatever decision the PM takes.' He also tried to downplay the controversy, dismissing any differences with the government over the matter. 'There may be different points of view but no differences,' said Khurshid. The controversy was triggered by a letter from the poll panel to President Pratibha Patil on Saturday, complaining about Khurshid's 'defiant' attitude on his remarks on providing a job quota for minorities.
