State-run companies Steel Authority of India (SAIL) and National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) are planning to set up an ultra mega steel plant (UMSP) in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region.
The greenfield project had proposed at Dilmili- about 35 kms from the divisional headquarters of Bastar. The plant would have a 3 million tonne per annum capacity and would come up with an investment of Rs 18,000 crore.
SAIL is India's largest steel producing company. The company is among the five Maharatnas of the country's Central Public Sector Enterprises. The company has five integrated steel plants, three special plants, and one subsidiary in different parts of the country.
