Steel Authority of India (SAIL), the country’s largest steel producer, has completed the current phase of the modernisation and expansion of the Bokaro Steel Plant with an investment of Rs 6,325 crore. This planned expansion has raised the plant's crude steel production capacity to 4.61 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) from 4.36 MTPA.
SAIL is India's largest steel producing company. The company is among the five Maharatnas of the country's Central Public Sector Enterprises. The company has five integrated steel plants, three special plants, and one subsidiary in different parts of the country.
