ONGC seeks MoEF’s nod for Rs 53,000 crore KG-basin infra

State-owned ONGC is seeking Ministry of Environment and Forests’ (MoEF) nod for drilling 45 Development Wells and other related infrastructure involving a cost of over Rs 53,000 crore in Krishna-Godavari basin. The present proposal is submitted for development in the Northern Development area.

The block KG-DWN-98/2 or KG-D5 is divided into two parts -- Northern Development Area (NDA) which is deep waters with a depth of up to 1,800 metres, and Southern Development Area (SDA) which has ultra-deep waters with depth ranging up to 3,100 metres.

ONGC is an Indian multinational oil and gas company headquartered in Dehradun, India. It is India’s largest oil and gas exploration and production company. It produces around 69% of India's crude oil (equivalent to around 30% of the country's total demand) and around 62% of its natural gas.
