Rupee turns lower after early gains

Indian rupee made a marginally strong start on Wednesday on fresh selling of the American currency by exporters and banks. Though, a lower opening in the domestic equity market capped some gains. On the global front, US dollar was broadly lower on Wednesday as hopes for progress in Greek debt talks and a huge spike in European yields combined to give the euro its biggest gain in three months.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 63.89, weaker by 6 paise from its previous close of 63.83 on Tuesday. The currency touched a high and low of 63.89 and 63.75 respectively. The Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) reference rate for the dollar stood at 63.83 and for Euro stood at 69.73 on June 2, 2015. While, the RBI’s reference rate for the Yen stood at 51.21, the reference rate for the Great Britain Pound (GBP) stood at 97.1028. The reference rates are based on 12 noon rates of a few select banks in Mumbai.
