Rupee ends stronger breaking three days declining streak

05 Jun 2015 Evaluate

Indian rupee snapping its three days declining streak ended higher on Friday, on continued selling of dollar by exporters and banks. The domestic currency made a cautious start with lower opening in the domestic equity markets and dollar's strength against other currencies overseas capping the gains. But fresh selling of dollar by banks and exporters in view of good foreign capital inflows boosted the rupee. In the global markets the euro pulled away from a more than two-week high against the dollar after Greece deferred a debt repayment and German bonds extended declines in their worst week since 1998.

Finally the rupee ended at 63.75, 25 paise stronger from its previous close of 64.00 on Thursday. The currency touched a high and low of 63.99 and 63.78 respectively. The Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) reference rate for the dollar stood at 63.89 and for Euro stood at 71.81 on June 5, 2015. While, the RBI’s reference rate for the Yen stood at 51.33, the reference rate for the Great Britain Pound (GBP) stood at 97.9774. The reference rates are based on 12 noon rates of a few select banks in Mumbai.
