Steel Authority of India (SAIL) is aiming to produce 50 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of steel by 2025 at an estimated investment of Rs 1,50,000 crore. The company’s steel plants are being expanded from a capacity of 13 MTPA to 23 MTPA, at an investment of Rs 61,000 crore.
Last year, the ministry placed a special emphasis on timely completion of modernisation and expansion of public sector companies under the Ministry of Steel.
SAIL is India's largest steel producing company. The company is among the five Maharatnas of the country's Central Public Sector Enterprises. The company has five integrated steel plants, three special plants, and one subsidiary in different parts of the country.
