Haryana government has set a target of covering a total area of over 18.51 lakh hectares under Kharif crop this season with the total target of foodgrain production set at about 52.33 lakh tones (LT). Of the total area set, 12 lakh hectares would be brought under paddy. The maximum paddy crop of over 1.69 lakh hectares would be cultivated in district of Hisar, followed by Kaithal where 1.54 lakh hectares area would be covered.
The other foodgrain crops produced during Kharif season are jwar, maize, bajra and pulses. Jwar would be cultivated over an area of 70,000 hectares to achieve the production target of 42,000 tonnes and maize over an area of 20,000 hectares to produce 56,000 tonnes.
Similarly, bajra would be cultivated over 5.10 lakh hectares to produce over 9.44 lakh tonnes and pulses over 51,000 hectares to produce 51,000 tonnes.
