ONGC’s Tripura unit has reportedly introduced highly technical Hydro-fracturing (HF) job procedure to intensify exploration of natural gas for supply in different projects of the state. The company is expected to receive 20,000 or 25000 lakh cubic meter gas from a well where HF technology was introduced.
The company has drilled 190 wells in the state so far, out of which gas was found in 94 wells- which is an encouraging trend. The company made discovery of commercial gas in Khubal area in February 2009 and completed drilling of seven exploratory out of which 2 wells are gas bearing. To arrest the declining production of the ageing Baramura field and to improve productivity from tight reservoir sands of this area, it was decided to undertake hydro-fracturing.
