India's crude oil output rose marginally by 0.8% to 3.18 million tons (mt) in May 2015 as compared to 3.16 mt in the same month a year ago on account of 1.8% rise in state-owned ONGC's (Oil and Natural Gas Corp) oil output at 1.9 mt. Its western offshore fields produced 8.5% more crude oil at 1.3 mt and helped tied over a 9% drop in onshore output at 0.48 mt.
However in April-May, the first two months of the current fiscal, the nation's crude oil production dipped 1% to 6.205 mt. While ONGC produced 1.7% more crude oil at 3.71 mt, fields operated by private firms saw a 6.3% dip at 1.92 mt.
