Indian rupee extending its somberness for the second straight session and ended flat on Wednesday, on account of the dollar’s gains against other currencies overseas and increased demand from importers for the US currency. The rupee was in somber mood from the very beginning, however a higher opening in domestic equity market, capped losses to some extent, later the equity markets too gave up all its gains and ended in red that weighed on the sentiments of the domestic currency. In the global markets the dollar hovered near its highest in over a week against a basket of major currencies.
Finally the rupee ended at 63.61, 1 paise weaker from its previous close of 63.60 on Tuesday. The currency touched a high and low of 63.70 and 63.58 respectively. The Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) reference rate for the dollar stood at 63.66 and for Euro stood at 71.31 on June 24, 2015. While, the RBI’s reference rate for the Yen stood at 51.38, the reference rate for the Great Britain Pound (GBP) stood at 100.5000. The reference rates are based on 12 noon rates of a few select banks in Mumbai.
