Import of vegetable oils during June 2015 is reported at 1,016,297 tons consisting of 1,013,998 tons of edible oils and 2,299 tons of non-edible oils, as per data compiled by the Solvent Extractors’ Association of India (SEA). This is a rise of 15% compared to 883,679 tons in June 2014. The overall import of vegetable oils during November 14 to June 15 is reported at 8,849,821 tons compared to 7,082,220 tons i.e. up by 25%.
During November 14 - June 15, import of refined oil (RBD Palmolein) reported at 913,563 tons compared to 1,079,711 tons during the same period of last year. The share of imported crude oil jumped to 90% from 84% and reported at 7,808,711 tons compared to 5,876,121 tons during the same period of last year.
During November 14 - June 15, with increase in overall import, palm oil import increased to 5,850,719 tons from 4,931,095 tons during the same period of last year. Similarly, soft oils import also increased to 2,871,555 tons from 2,024,737 tons last year i.e. up by 42%. Share of soft oils in total import increased to 33% from 29% last year while that of palm oil products reduced to 67% from 71%. Apart, India also imported about 2.31 lakh tons of rapeseed (canola) oil during November 14 to June 15.
