Rupee depreciates on fresh demand for American currency from importers

Indian rupee depreciated marginally against dollar in early deals on Wednesday due to fresh demand for the American currency from importers and a lower opening in the domestic equity market. Besides, the dollar strengthened against other major currencies overseas too impacting the rupee sentiments. On the global front, the dollar nursed losses early on Wednesday after taking its biggest one-day fall so far this month, though most observers felt it was just a hiccup in the currency's long-term uptrend.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 63.56, little changed from its previous close of 63.55 on Tuesday. The currency touched a high and low of 63.62 and 63.5525 respectively. The Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) reference rate for the dollar stood at 63.65 and for Euro stood at 68.90 on July 21, 2015. While, the RBI’s reference rate for the Yen stood at 51.17, the reference rate for the Great Britain Pound (GBP) stood at 99.1358. The reference rates are based on 12 noon rates of a few select banks in Mumbai.
