CPI (M) leader Sitaram Yechury questioned External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj's hesitation in ordering a probe into the Lalit Modi controversy and said that she must step down till the inquiry is over. While reacting to Swaraj's assertion in the Lok Sabha, Yechury said that the rules made for the government employees should be applicable to her also. There should be an inquiry. And if she is found guilty, she should be taken on the task according to the rules which are made for the government employees.
Making a passionate speech in the Lok Sabha earlier, Swaraj strongly stated that all accusations against her are baseless adding that she never recommended or requested the British Government to favour Lalit Modi for travel documents. Swaraj said that words in such communication are important. If she was recommending, then she would have written that travel documents should be given to Lalit Modi. If she had requested or recommended, then the British Government would have answered the Economic Times query accordingly.
