Delhi government has decided to sell onions at subsidized rate of Rs 30 per kg through Fair Price Shops (FPS) and mobile shops as against the earlier rate of Rs 40. The decision was taken in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. This step is aimed to bring down the price of onions in the market and the move comes after the prices were stabilized in the market.
The state government has identified 280 FPS outlets in the city and is also selling onions through mobile shops where FPS is not close to residential locations. This will help in controlling and stabilizing onion prices in the retail market and also in mandis.
Further, till the price of onions stabilizes completely, the state government will continue to strictly monitor the price movement from time to time and will take necessary interventions from its side.
