Indian rupee strengthened against the US dollar in early trade on Thursday on account of increased selling of the American currency by exporters. Further, weak dollar against other currencies overseas and a higher opening in the domestic equity markets also boosted the sentiments. On the global front, the dollar was on the defensive against the euro and yen on Thursday, having pulled back sharply after Federal Reserve meeting minutes suggested that policymakers were in no hurry to raise interest rates.
The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 65.24, stronger by 3 paise from its previous close of 65.27 on Wednesday. The currency touched a high and low of 65.26 and 65.1250 respectively. The Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) reference rate for the dollar stood at 65.25 and for Euro stood at 72.19 on August 19, 2015.
