The Exchange had sought clarification from Hindustan Unilever with respect to news article appearing in Asian Age on August 19, 2015 titled ‘Lakme ties up with Aptech’. Hindustan Unilever replied stating they would like to submit that Lakme Lever Private Limited (Lakme), a subsidiary of Hindustan Unilever Limited and Aptech Limited, the country’s prominent vocational training institute, have formalized a strategic partnership to establish beauty training academies across India. This alliance between Lakme and Aptech will significantly improve the quality of talent in the beauty services industry. Branded Lakme Academy powered by Aptech, the alliance intends to set up 100 academies to train 50,000 stylists across India over the next five years. Lakme will design content and course modules, train trainers and certify students while Aptech will be responsible for the entire academy operations. Lakme Academy powered by Aptech, will offer both foundation and advanced level training in skin, hair and make-up. The alliance leverages the strengths of Lakme and Aptech and creates a compelling Win-Win-Win-Win proposition for Lakme, Aptech, students and finally our consumers who will get high quality experience and expertise at Lakme Salons. Lakme Academy will strengthen the business model of Lakme, with a captive supply of high quality talent. This alliance is a capability building initiative and will not have any significant impact on the financials of Lakme in the short to medium term.
