The Congress Party accused the Gujarat Government of inefficiency and criticized it for not taking the Patel community into confidence to prevent violence in the state. Congress leader Gurudas Kamat said that the Patel community has been demanding reservation for long. The government should have taken them into confidence, but they failed to so and haven't taken any step for preventing a law and order situation in the state.

Kamat said that the Patel community must not resort to violence and must discuss the matter peacefully. He added that the chief minister and the PM should address the demands of the community and the violence must be stopped by taking the agitating people in confidence.

Following arson and stone-pelting incidents by the members of Patel community after the detention of their 22-year-old leader Hardik Patel on Tuesday night, a curfew was imposed in three towns of North Gujarat and some areas of Surat. About 5,000 paramilitary personnel were rushed to Gujarat earlier in the wake of violence in several cities. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to Gujarat CM Anandiben Patel , assuring her full support to tackle the situation.
