Rupee ends weaker against dollar on Wednesday

Indian rupee ended weaker against dollar on Wednesday due to fresh dollar demand from importers. The dollar strengthened against major world currencies overseas which impacted the rupee sentiment. Besides, losses of local equities also added to the pessimistic environment. On the global, front the dollar edged up against the yen and euro, as Chinese and European stock markets lost ground despite China's easing measures, with most investors getting worried over the outlook for the global economy.

Finally, the rupee ended at 66.14, 4 paise weaker from its previous close of 66.10 on Tuesday. The currency touched a high and low of 66.338 and 66.06 respectively. The Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) reference rate for the dollar stood at 66.16 and for Euro stood at 75.88 on August 26, 2015. While, the RBI’s reference rate for the Yen stood at 55.28, the reference rate for the Great Britain Pound (GBP) stood at 103.8794. The reference rates are based on 12 noon rates of a few select banks in Mumbai.
