Lyka Labs' Ankleshwar factory is sealed without following due procedure of law, by the Mamlatdar of Ankleshwar for alleged recovery of dues towards Drug Price Equalization Account (DPEA), under Drugs Price Control Order, 1979 (DPCO 1979). This has happened despite the matter being Sub Judice before the Gujarat High Court. The hearing is on in the matter in the Gujarat High Court and the company hopes that the matter will be resolved soon.
Earlier, Lyka Labs factory at Ankleshwar had achieved record production for the month of September, 2010. Its Ankleshwar plant is located in one of the largest chemical Industrial Estates in Asia, in Gujarat. The manufacturing plant has facilities for production of Capsules, External preparations, Parentals and Lyophilizations and the capacity of the plant for capsules is 10 lakh caps per shift, for ointment 1 lakh tubes per shift, for parentals 1 lakh vials of powder injection per shift and for lyophilization 300 kgs condenser and 2 lyophilizers.
Lyka Labs is engaged in manufacturing of pharmaceutical products. It also manufactures Veterinary products including injections, powders, creams and suspensions. The company offers various surgical disposables, such as syringes, surgical blades, cotton crepe bandage and first aid kits.
The DPCO was first passed in 1970 and then revised in 1979, 1987 and 1995. The DPCO is an order issued by the government empowering it to fix and regulate the prices of essential bulk drugs and their formulations. The Drugs Prices Control Order of 1979 was issued on March 31. In its revised version, the DPCO stipulated ceiling prices for controlled categories of bulk drugs and their formulations.
