The turnover of the commodity bourses rose by 13.55% and stood at Rs 25.43 lakh crore till August 15 during the ongoing fiscal as compared to business of Rs 22.40 lakh crore clocked in the same period last year, according to data compiled by commodity markets regulator Forward Markets Commission (FMC). A great deal of volumes were generated in energy items like crude oil, followed by metals and agricultural commodities. However, there was a decline in trading volumes in gold and silver trade.
The turnover from energy commodities increased sharply by 47% to Rs 7.14 lakh crore in the April-August 15 of this financial year, from Rs 4.87 lakh crore in the year-ago period. Similarly, the business from metals like copper increased by 14.59% to Rs 5.74 lakh crore from Rs 5.01 lakh crore, while the turnover from agri-items rose by 12% to Rs 5.10 lakh crore from Rs 4.55 lakh crore in the period under the review.
The turnover from bullion however fell by 6.51% to Rs 7.44 lakh crore from 7.96 lakh crore in the said period, as per the latest data released by FMC.
