GSK Pharma commences work to set-up Rs 1,000 crore manufacturing unit in Karnataka

GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals (GSK Pharma) has begun work for setting up a Rs 1,000 crore pharmaceutical manufacturing unit at Vemgal in state of Karnataka. The facility will be built on a 50-acre site and will be fully operational in 2017. It will make more than 8 billion tablets and 1 billion capsules for the Indian market.

The facility will also include a warehouse, site infrastructure, employee welfare centre and utilities to support the manufacturing and packing of medicines.

GSK Pharma is one oldest pharmaceutical company in India. Internationally it has created many brands such as Ribena, Horlicks, Lucozade, Aquafresh, Sensodyne, Panadol, Tums and Zovirax, among others. It employs 5,000 people and has turnover of more than $1 billion in India.
