India's natural rubber production rose by 7.8% in August to 55,000 tons, while imports fell 32% to 33,292 tons, as compared to the year-ago period, according to Rubber Board data. Natural rubber consumption grew to 87,500 tons during the month from 86,300 tons in the year-ago period. Imports declined to 33,292 tons in August 2015 from 49,108 tons in August 2014.
During the April-August period of the fiscal, natural rubber production fell 11% to 2.42 lakh tons from 2.72 lakh tons during the same period of previous year. Consumption declined by 1.7% to 4,18,080 tons in the first five months of 2015-2016 from 4,25,285 tons in the year-ago period.
Imports during the April- August period declined to 1,78,756 tons as compared to 1,92,966 tons recorded in April-August 2014. However, exports grew to 194 tons during April-August period from 184 tons in the same period of previous year.
