Videocon surges as its arm plan to continue 2G telecom operations

Videocon Industries is currently trading at Rs. 189.35, up by 5.50 points or 2.99% from its previous closing of Rs. 183.85 on the BSE.

The scrip opened at Rs. 186.40 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 196.00 and Rs. 186.40 respectively. So far 150070 shares were traded on the counter.

The BSE group 'A' stock of face value Rs. 10 has touched a 52 week high of Rs. 219.00 on 30-Jun-2011 and a 52 week low of Rs. 162.00 on 25-Nov-2011.

Last one week high and low of the scrip stood at Rs. 196.00 and Rs. 177.00 respectively. The current market cap of the company is Rs. 5757.41 crore.

The promoters holding in the company stood at 68.24% while Institutions and Non-Institutions held 12.72% and 14.22% respectively.

Videocon Industries’ subsidiary - Videocon Telecommunications (VTL) plans to carry on its telecom operations and aims to take part in the auction for 2G spectrum. Last month Supreme Court had cancelled 122 licenses, which also included 21 licenses of VTL.

It proposes to participate in the auction and is hopeful of continuing the business thereafter. It has got 2G licenses in January 2008 by the then telecom minister A Raja.

Videocon Industries has posted a fall of 46.77% in its net profit to Rs 86.42 crore for the fourth quarter ended December 31, 2011 as compared to Rs 162.36 crore for the corresponding quarter previous year.
