Tech Mahindra bags $400-m Etisalat deal

08 Sep 2009 Evaluate

Etisalat DB, formerly known as Swan Telecom, will outsource implementation of its software applications and IT infrastructure to Tech Mahindra as part of a $400-million (around Rs 1,950-crore) deal spread over the next 10 years. This is the largest IT services deal that the telecom software vendor, which generates most of its revenues from Europe, has bagged in the domestic market. IBM and Wipro were among seven other technology vendors who took part in the bidding for this deal.

The end-to-end IT applications and infrastructure arrangement with Tech Mahindra will be a major step for Etisalat towards bringing down the operational cost to compete effectively in the market and ensure faster rollout of our services in India and thereafter manage complete maintenance of applications and infrastructure.

This is Tech Mahindra`s second deal with the Etisalat group. Indian telecom providers have been increasingly outsourcing their IT infrastructure as it would enable them to be asset-light and to concentrate on their core competencies.
