The total agricultural area in Andhra Pradesh in the current ongoing Kharif season has shrunk by 5.24 lakh hectare (LH) to 32.52 LH on account of weak monsoon. The acreage under various crops stood at 32.52 LH in April-August period against the targeted 37.76 LH.
The area under paddy has declined by 2.45 LH due to shortage of water in Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar reservoirs. Andhra Pradesh government has unveiled an alternate crop plan for farmers in order to meet the challenges owing to drought conditions in the state.
The farmers will be provided seeds with 50% subsidy under the plan. A total of 142 lakh quintal seeds of various crops are ready for distribution to farmers.
