Cement major, ACC is likely to create additional five million tonnes per annum capacity (mtpa), bringing about an estimated investment of around Rs 3,000 crore to accomplish the rising cement demand from the eastern region. This expansion is likely to complete in next three years, which will take the overall cement making capacity of the company to 35 million tonnes a year.
The company has nine million tonnes per annum cement making capacity in the country’s eastern part, where the demand for cement is of late going up by nearly double digits. It aims to cash in the increased demand, cement makers are putting in 18 million tonnes per annum additional capacity between FY’12 and FY’14 in the eastern India to its overall current capacity of 60 million tonnes.
ACC’s cement production in February 2012 has increased by 8.63% at 2.14 million tonne, as against 1.97 million tonne in the year-ago period. The company's dispatches in the month were up by 7.50% at 2.15 million tonne, as against 2.00 million tonne in same month last year.
