With counting still in process, Mulayam Singh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party’s (SP) victory is clearly at the sight. Bit by bit inching towards the victory, SP is so far leading with 213 seats in the country’s largest state - Uttar Pradesh followed by erstwhile ruling party Bahujan Samaj Party headed by Chief Minister Mayawati with 99 seats. Congress is sidelined with meager 38 seats and is tailing BJP who is so far leading with 46 seats. Results are expected by evening for all 403 seats in the state.

Should the aforementioned leads convert into results, SP will be forming its government which would be without support from Congress. Lynchpin campaigner of SP - Akhilesh Yadav said his government will not touch dalit memorials built by Mayawati 'They will be safe'. By adding further, Yadav said providing relief to the farmers through loan waivers and improvement in power supply will be their priority. Yadav has also confirmed unanimously that Mulayam will be next Chief Minister. On the other hand, Chief Minister Mayawati will be submitting her resignation to the governor today.

Congress party’s general secretary and star campaigner Rahul Gandhi, who conducted more than 200 campaigns in the state in last 2 months, has taken responsibility of this defeat. According to Gandhi, his parties fundamentals are weak in the state, however, the winning number has improved over previous elections.

In the state of Goa, BJP seized power from the former ruling party Congress as it leads with 38 seats. The state Chief Minister Digamber Kamat has already submitted his resignation. Goa BJP leader Manohar Parrikar himself announced euphorically that he will be most likely the next chief minister of the state. He added, 'I have given a time schedule which I will follow. In the budget, we will make announcements like petrol VAT and inflation.' By adding further, he said, 'The Congress has been punished in Goa. I am proud of the fact that I got support from Hindus, Muslims and Christians alike. They have voted to save Goa.' The Congress has so far won 8 seats.

Besides this, the vote counting is in process in the states of Manipur, UttaraKhand and Punjab. BJP is leading in Goa with 38 seats, Congress is leading in Manipur with 43 seats, Akali is leading Punjab with 68, BJP and Congress are neck to neck with 33 and 30 seats in UttaraKhand.
