06 Jul 2011 Evaluate

Coromandel International, flagship of the Chennai-based Murugappa Group, has inked an agreement with Qatar Fertiliser Company (QAFCO) for supply of urea. This agreement paves the way for Coromandel International for its long-term association with a very reputed international urea manufacturer which will be particularly important when urea is decanalised.

Coromandel International also manufactures a wide range of crop protection and specialty nutrient products. India is one of the strategic markets for QAFCO and this agreement with Coromandel will pave way for QAFCO strengthening its presence in the Indian market.

Coromandel International is engaged in manufacturing of fertilizers, specialty nutrients, crop protection and retail, while Sabero is a producer and supplier of fungicides, herbicides and insecticides. CIL, a part of the $3.8 billion-Murugappa Group, had last month announced that it is going to acquire 42.2% stake in SOGL, a Mumbai-based agrochemicals manufacturer, for Rs 250 crore in an all cash deal.

QAFCO is one of the largest producers of urea and ammonia, producing around three million tonne of prilled or granular urea. After its current round of expansion, QAFCO will become the largest single-site producer of ammonia and urea in the world. The firm will have ammonia output capacity of 3.8 million tonne and urea capacity of 5.6 million tonne.
