UP Congress Chief offers resignation following party’s defeat

Defeat of the Congress party in the largest state - Uttar Pradesh as Rahul Gandhi’s magic failed to lure the voters has coerced the party’s chief (state) Rita Bahuguna Joshi to offer her resignation to the party high command Sonia Gandhi. Joshi owning moral responsibility for the poll debacle offered her resignation to Gandhi, decision will be taken on the same in due course.

Further, Joshi said that there were reasons for it and party leaders will sit down and take stock of. By adding further she said that the whole party cadre was collectively responsible for the debacle and it was wrong to engage in blame game at this moment when the party is in crisis in the state.

Congress party’s general secretary and lead campaigner Rahul Gandhi, who conducted more than 200 campaigns in the state in last 2 months, has already taken responsibility of this defeat. According to Gandhi, his parties fundamentals are weak in the state, however, the winning number has improved over previous elections. The Congress had finished fourth in the elections during which Rahul Gandhi had led from the front and the party could secure only 28 seats.
