Production of gas from Reliance Industries Ltd’s (RIL) D6 block in Krishna Godavari basin is expected to be delayed due to unfavourable weather conditions. RIL is also known to have warned that the delays may have a knock-on effect on its ability to start production by next month, as was planned. RIL had initially planned to produce gas at around 40 million cubic metres per day, but later decided to double the production to 80 mmscmd.
According to RIL’s communication to the Directorate General of Hydrocarbons (DGH), most of the delays happened in October and November and were caused by cyclones and strong ocean undercurrents. Without specifying the exact extent of delay, RIL told the DGH, the country’s oil and gas sector regulator, that construction activity at the production site is running behind schedule.
