The production of sugar till November 30, 2015 stood at 23.60 lakh tonnes (LT) in the current 2015-16 SS which is 4.62 LT more than the production in the last season up to the same corresponding period when 18.98 LT of sugar was produced. This year 351 sugar mills were crushing sugarcane as on November 30, 2015 compared to 343 sugar factories which were crushing sugarcane last year on November 30, 2014.
Most of the sugar mills in Maharashtra have started their crushing operation and 158 sugar mills were crushing sugarcane as on November 30, 2015 as compared to 155 last year. They have produced 12.87 LT of sugar up to November 30, 2015 as compared to 11.95 LT produced in the corresponding period last year. The slightly higher sugar production is mainly because larger number of sugar mills started their crushing operation earlier this year as compared to last season.
In the, state of Uttar Pradesh 66 sugar mills were crushing sugarcane on November 30, 2015 who have produced 1.80 LT as on November 30, 2015. At the end of November, 2014 last year, 65 sugar mills were crushing in Uttar Pradesh who had produced 1.0 LT, which is slightly less than what they have done this year. The crushing in UP has just begun.
