Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy rubbished the Congress Party's charges of a political vendetta in the National Herald case and asked them to base their arguments and criticism on facts. Swamy said "The Supreme Court has in a number of judgments said that even if there is political vendetta, the facts are the important thing. The judges must look at the facts. There is the famous Bhajan Lal's case from 1992; there had been 10 judgments like that. They should know this but they are banking on your ignorance".
Swamy further said the court has issued an order asking Congress president Sonia Gandhi and party vice-president Rahul Gandhi to appear before it on December 19 in connection with this case. He further added that the judge can call them anytime. The issue is that they will have to obey it till then it is over turned by something else. Swamy had filed a complaint before the trial court in 2012, alleging that Congress leaders were involved in cheating and breach of trust in the acquisition of Associated Journals (AJL) by Young Indian (YIL).
Meanwhile, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi reiterated that the court's order in the National Herald case was the result of political vendetta coming from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO). Gandhi said that ‘This is their way of doing politics. I have full faith in the legal system of this country and we will see at the end what comes out...the truth will come out’. He further escalated the attack on the BJP Government, saying they know who is actually threatening the judicial system of the nation. A defiant Congress vice-president had charged the BJP with adopting vendetta politics and vowed to continue questioning the government.
