After the high end drama in both the houses and ending the winter session without concreting the Lokpal law, the controversial Bill is likely to be pursued in the budget session of parliament which began yesterday. The ombudsman Bill which sailed the ruckus of lower assembly got stuck in the Rajya Sabha as the United Progressive Alliance government is short of numbers.

The government has planned to take up the passage of Bills like Lokpal, Land acquisition, the grievance redressal bill, the whistle blower's protection bill, the nuclear safety regulatory authority bill, the pension fund regulatory authority bill, the judges accountability bill, the women's reservation bill and the seeds bill, in the second part of Budget session beginning April 24. However, the largest opposition party - BJP is demanding a discussion on the issue. Arun Jaitley leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha has decided to move a motion for suspension of Question Hour in the Upper House on Tuesday for discussion on Lokpal Bill. “The reason government gave then is that it wants more time to go through those amendments moved by the members. By now, it has had enough time to study them,” Jaitley said.

The Budget session will end on May 22 and is scheduled for 35 sittings. The government has lined up 30 Bills for introduction, for consideration and passing 39 Bills are on the agenda of the ongoing session. The Railways Budget will be presented in the lower assembly on March 4 followed by Economic Survey on March 15. Post this, the General Budget will be presented on March 16.
