Narendra Modi government has failed to revive economy: Congress

30 Dec 2015 Evaluate

Congress leader Anand Sharma said that the Narendra Modi government has failed to revive the economy. He said that on economy front, the government is clueless how to revive the economy. They are not doing well in any sector. The 19 months of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government were marked by ‘unaccountable centralisation of power, policy making and administrative decisions’ leading to an ‘authoritarian style of functioning which resulted in breakdown of the structures of governance which has paralysed administration and undermined institutions’.

Sharma said that the welfare system the UPA had built has been weakened (now). The government made major cuts in education, health and women welfare. He further added that the GDP to rising debt ratio, which was brought down from 63 per cent to 48 per cent, has gone up to 53 per cent in one year. If you go by the old method of GDP calculation, growth is only 5.2 per cent.

Sharma also pointed out that the farming sector was depressed and the Modi government has failed the farmers. He accused the BJP government of being insensitive to the poor and under-privileged people. He said that it has shown callous disregard to the plight of the Indian farmers, who have been severely affected by the ongoing agrarian distress, floods and droughts in many parts of the country.
