Most of the Asian equity benchmarks are trading down in the early deals on Thursday, the final trading day of 2015, with the weak cues overnight from Wall Street and the fall in crude oil prices weighing on investor sentiment. The markets in Japan, South Korea, and Indonesia are closed for the New Year's Eve holiday and the markets in Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Singapore will close early for New Year's Eve. Among the other Asian markets, Shanghai, Malaysia and Taiwan are edging lower, while Singapore, and Hong Kong are marginally higher.
Shanghai Composite declined 21.95 points or 0.61% to 3,550.92, Taiwan Weighted slipped 1.42 points or 0.02% to 8,278.57, and FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI was down by 1.82 points or 0.11% to 1,691.32.
On the flip side, Hang Seng gained 32.25 points or 0.15% to 21,914.40, and Straits Times was up by 2.73 points or 0.09% to 2,888.24.
