Tata Steel Ltd reported a 4.4 per cent rise in crude steel production for the financial year ended March 2011. The company's crude steel output increased to 6.85 million tonnes as against previous year's 6.564 million tonnes. Tata Steel has an installed capacity of 6.8 million tonnes at Jamshedpur facility, which the company is expanding to 10 million tonnes a year.Tata Steel completed the fiscal 2010-11 with an all-round increase in hot metal, crude steel and saleable steel production and sales over last year.
The company reported a 4 per cent increase in its sales at 6.414 million tonnes for fiscal 2011 as against 6.169 million tonnes in the previous year. Sales of long products such as bars, rods, wires structural shapes and rails used in concrete and engineering products registered a 7 per cent growth to 2.876 million tonnes as against 2.697 million tonnes in the previous year.
The sales of flat product used in ship building, construction, large diameter welded pipes and boiler applications, were up two per cent at 3.538 million tonnes as against 3.472 million tonnes in the previous year.
