Wipro’s infrastructure engineering division has tied up with European aerospace giant EADS’ subsidiary to manufacture engineered components for the aerospace and defence (A&D) sector. According to the agreement, EADS’ Spanish subsidiary Compania Espanola De Sistemas Aeronauticos (CESA) will transfer a part of its technology as well as manufacturing workload for aerospace actuators and precision parts to Wipro Infrastructure Engineering (WIN).
Wipro will start manufacturing for CESA initially and then start supplying to other players, both in India and abroad. CESA will get a fee for technology transfer as well as cost-competitive manufacturing base here. This will also be an opportunity for CESA to explore the Indian market.
This is a niche product segment which does not have any other manufacturer in India. Wipro wants to address outsourcing opportunities in the global A&D space where original equipment manufacturers and Tier-I suppliers who are looking at extending supply chains to cost competitive countries like India. Wipro chose to partner with CESA as the Spanish company’s products are being used by some of the biggest players in the defence and aerospace industry that Wipro will now get access to. Overall the demand in the A&D market is huge and it is expected to contribute 25% to WIN’s revenues in five years.crackcrack
