After the rail fare hike by Rail Budget presenter - Dinesh Trivedi which gave an earthquaky effect to the Parliament and jitters were felt by Prime Minister and UPA as its ally’s head Mamata Banerjee requested PM to sack the minister. According to Banerjee, Trivedi the Lok Sabha member from her party - Trinamool Congress declared the railway fare without consulting her. Although this was the first fare hike in around eight years and as per Trivedi this was essential to operate railways whose dysfunction has major effect on economy.

Clearing the clouds over Trivedi’s exit, Prime Minister has clarified today that minister will be asked to resign only if situation arises. The PM said, 'If anything like this develops, we will consider it.' Also, Trivedi said 'neither Prime Minister Manmohan Singh nor Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee has asked me to resign so far.'

Brushing aside the ruckus created by his party head Banerjee, Trivedi has maintained firm stance on the railway budget presented by him. 'I have presented the railway budget and it is my duty to defend it,' he said. According to Trivedi, the rail fare hike is essential to avert Air India like situation for the largest human resource absorber. On the other hand, Trinamool Congress MPs staged a sit-in outside Parliament demanding rollback of increase in rail fares and a special package for West Bengal.
