TataConsultancy Services BPO, the backoffice arm of TCS, is scaling up its units inIndia, the US and the Philippines to serve its clients across various geographies.The company is investing in scaling up its centres in Michigan (US), Manila(Philippines) as well as Tier-II centres in India such as Kolkata and Pune. The company is also setting up a 2,000-seater unit inAhmedabad. The Ahmedabad centre is expected to become operational in theDecember quarter and will have about 1,000 people in the first phase. Currently,TCS BPO has about 35,000 people, of which 4,500 are based outside India. It hascentres in the US, the Philippines, latin America, Europe and China apart fromIndia.

Aboutthe demand environment, there has been no significant impact on businessbecause of the economic conditions in Europe and the US. At such times, companieslook at the IT industry to get solutions which would help them reduce costs aswell as find new revenue streams.
