India's steel imports dipped by 8.7% from a year earlier to 0.916 million tons in January and down 2.8% compared with December 2015. However, imports rose 24.1% for the April-January period of the ongoing fiscal to 9.306 million tons.
The development comes in the wake of the government taking a number of steps to check inbound shipments from countries like China. After a decline in November, India's steel imports have surged by 23% in December neutralizing the measures taken by the government to check cheap imports.
Steel imports has risen by 23% to 0.94 million tons in December compared to November. In November, steel imports were at 0.76 million tons, down by 35% over the previous month.
