'Slogans against nation 'not acceptable': Rijiju

Reiterating the government's stand, Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju said that anti-national activities would not be tolerated in the country. Responding to a poser as to why anti-national slogans were raised in the JNU campus, Rijiju said that is it JNU or any other university anywhere in this country, slogans against nation is not acceptable. They consider it as a serious offence.

Rijiju said '‘How would it feel when you are raising slogans against the nation where you are staying? Stern action would be taken against all those who are involved in it’'. Expressing his displeasure over anti-national activities at Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru University, Union Home Minister Singh said that the government would not tolerate any anti-national activities in the country and added that anyone raising anti-India slogans or questioning the nation's unity and integrity would not be spared.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police had arrested Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union president Kanhaiya Kumar over ongoing controversy over anti-India slogans being raised at an event in the varsity against the hanging of 2001 Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru. The Delhi Police had earlier registered a case of sedition against the JNU students, who had agitated against Guru's hanging following complaints by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Maheish Girri and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP) members.
