HCL Technologies has bagged a five-year data centre hosting and migration contract from the UK-based pharma major AstraZeneca. As part of the deal, HCL replaces IBM to manage AstraZeneca’s data centre operations spread across 60 locations globally. IBM had bagged the contract in 2007 and according to IDG, the IT infrastructure deal then was worth $1.4 billion.
HCL already works with global pharma majors such as GlaxoSmithKline, Eli Lilly and Merck. The firm will also deliver server virtualisation, storage and backup transformation and implementation of a hybrid cloud for the AstraZeneca, which makes cancer and cardiovascular drugs. In addition, the Noida-based IT firm will manage AstraZeneca’s global collaboration environment including e-mail, messaging and collaboration services for users worldwide.
