Procter & Gamble stops making, selling Vicks Action 500 Extra

16 Mar 2016 Evaluate

Procter & Gamble Hygiene and Healthcare has discontinued manufacture and sale of all SKUs of Vicks Action 500 Extra, after a ban by the central government on 344 fixed-dose combination drugs. Vicks Action 500 Extra is a fixed-dose combination of paracetamol, phenylephrine and caffeine. The product was one of 344 drug combinations, including several antibiotics and analgesics, that Health Ministry ordered to be prohibited, saying that a government-appointed panel of experts had found the combinations lacked ‘therapeutic justification’.

However, according to the company, Vicks products, including Vicks Action 500 Extra, are backed by research to support their safety, quality and efficacy. It has products approved by government regulators in around 60 countries, and enjoys an excellent safety record.

Procter & Gamble Hygiene and Health Care is one of India's fastest growing Fast Moving Consumer Goods Companies. Globally Procter & Gamble owns brands like Duracell, Olay, Tide, Gillette, Braun, Pringles, Lacoste, Puma, Oral-B, etc.
