Odisha government has placed an order of 5,000 tonne of dal from central pool in an effort to check the rise in prices of pulses in the state. The state government’s action in this regard came after the centre decided to sell arhar and toor dal to the states. The state may provide pulses to the consumers at a price not exceeding Rs 120 a kg.

The prices of different varieties of pulses have been on rise in the last few days across the country. The prices of pulses have increased about by Rs 20 per kg during a span of only 10 days. While Arhar dal is selling at Rs 150 per kg in the market compared to Rs 125 last week, the price of toor dal has increased from Rs 151 last week to Rs 165 per kg.

Odisha consumes about 4 lakh tonne pulses of different varieties per annum. The state produces only about 1.5 lakh tonne every year while the remaining quantity of pulses is imported from the states like Maharashtra.
