Taking a step ahead to convert the draft Lokpal Bill into law, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had convened all party meet today, however, the discussion ended without attaining any consensus. 'We look forward to benefiting from the wisdom and guidance of all leaders present here in the task that we have set for ourselves,' the Prime Minister said.

'The government along with major political parties will come out with a consensus. The government is committed to bring the Bill in this session. ...The actual wording of the Lokpal Bill will be worked out during the intervening period of the Budget Session,' said CPI (M)'s Sitaram Yechury. The government is expected to discuss and pass the highly publicized ombudsman bill in the second part of Budget session beginning on April 24, 2012. Singh had convoked seniors of all political parties at his residence today, to discuss the Bill and 97 amendments moved by the opposition in the upper house. The Bill was already cleared by the lower house in the Winter Session of Parliament which ended with the year 2011.

In the meantime, the social crusader and patron of the Lokpal bill Anna Hazare have expressed displeasure over failure of PM and senior leaders meet to reach any conclusion. Hazare is scheduled to stage one-day fast at Jantar Mantar on March 25, 2012 to pressurize government on clearance of the Bill in the second part of the ongoing Budget session. Hazare said the agitation is not against the government, but will certainly keep a tab on its future course of action. By adding further he said the price rise is a result of increasing corruption in the country.
