Siemens has introduced a new entry-level “circular” pellet making technology (CPT) to suit Indian condition looking at its emerging potential. This technology will enable miners to convert iron ore fines into high-value pellet products at a relatively lower cost and provide fuel flexibility.
The innovation involves converting the travelling grate process of pellet making from usual straight line configuration into a circular shaped one, thereby reducing substantially the plant area and the equipment weights. This translates into a reduced Capex.
The company has brought several improvements into the equipment design and the latest automation control has been incorporated. The new technology offers flexibility to use different types of fuels, like low cost-high ash locally available coal, in a gasification process. The new technology comes at a time when the country is expeditiously moving towards pallet route rather than sinter process for large scale usage of fines.
