Idea Cellular, one of the largest Indian telecom operators, has entered into partnership with Google Play to offer direct carrier billings for app and content purchases on Play Store. This service allows Idea’s 175 million subscribers to pay for all applications, content and in-app features on Google Play with the cost being directly charged to the subscribers’ existing phone credit post-paid and pre-paid both.
The subscribers will have to choose the Idea billing option when prompted during the purchase. There will also be a convenience charge on these purchases pegged at Rs 1.50 on a Rs 10 transaction. This move is expected to significantly boost app and in-app purchases in a market with low credit and debit card penetration.
Idea Cellular, an AV Birla group company, provides Global System for Mobile communications (GSM)-based wireless service at the pan-India level, it is present in all 22 telecom circles
